Gum Surgery Options

From gum disease to gummy smiles, our oral surgeons
ensure your gums look and feel great

Gum Flap Surgery

Gum Flap Surgery

During early stages of gum disease, your gums may pull away from your teeth and form a deep pocket that can easily trap food, bacteria, and plaque. Even when this pocket is cleaned, your gums may have trouble reattaching themselves. In these cases, your oral surgeon will perform a gum flap surgery to reduce the size of your pocket and prevent further buildup under your gums. Laser gum surgery may be used to safely and painlessly reduce pocket size as well as remove any damaged or infected gum tissue.

Crown Lengthening Surgery

Crown Lengthening Surgery

Crown lengthening surgery is a cosmetic procedure that removes excess gum tissue and makes your teeth appear longer and more prominent in your smile. During this procedure, we can recontour the shape and look of your gums exactly as you want. It is also helpful when placing a dental crown by exposing enough tooth to properly fit the crown.

Gum Graft Surgery

Gum Graft Surgery

In cases of severe gum disease, your gums may begin to recede or even be destroyed, causing your teeth to shift and loosen in place. When this happens, a gum graft surgery can be performed to replace the missing tissue. This gum recession surgery often uses gum tissue from the roof of your mouth to smoothly rebuild your gums and strengthen your smile.

Oral and Maxillofacial
Surgery

We’re ready and eager to help you restore the natural,
healthy look and feel of your smile

At Gold Coast Dental Moreno Valley, our dentists are highly trained in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Oral maxillofacial surgery is used to diagnose and treat diseases, trauma, and birth conditions affecting the look and function of your smile. With our expertise and dedication to high-quality care, we’re prepared to restore your smile to a beautiful, natural look. Here are our most common oral maxillofacial

surgery options. Tooth Extractions: When teeth are impacted or broken beneath the gum line, a surgical extraction is needed. This treatment uses a small incision to access the tooth so that we can easily remove it without any pain or fuss. Dental Implants: After having a tooth removed, we can give you a fully functional artificial tooth in the form of a dental implant. Implants surgically attach a metal post to your

jaw bone to act as a root and later top the post with an abutment and crown. This fully repairs your smile without causing stress or problems for neighboring teeth. Cleft Palate Repair: Clefts in the palate of your mouth are common birth defects that can be corrected with reparative surgery. This procedure is often performed on a baby 9 to 12 months old so that their lip develops normally, preventing speech or eating problems.

  • What does an oral surgeon do?

An oral surgeon is a specialist who has received at least another 4 to 6 years of training to make them experts in performing surgical procedures to help you with your dental needs. As they work with the mouth, face, and jaws, there is a wide variety of treatments they can perform, including tooth extractions, gum surgery, and craniofacial surgery.

  • Is oral surgery painful?

Although the word “surgery” may seem intensive or scary, we promise that you have nothing to worry about in our Moreno Valley office. We use high-grade dental anesthesia to fully numb the area of your mouth and face where we work, ensuring that your treatment is completely painless.

  • What should you not do before oral surgery?

To ensure that your dental surgery goes smoothly, you should not eat or drink anything for 8 hours before your treatment. You also shouldn’t smoke for 12 to 24 hours beforehand, according to your surgeon’s instructions. Depending on your procedure, we may also ask you to stop taking any blood-thinning medication, including aspirin, up to a few weeks in advance.

  • Are you awake during oral surgery?

You will be fully conscious during your dental oral surgery. The local anesthesia we use does not affect your mind or make you fall asleep. It stays localized to the area we work, ensuring that only your mouth will be numbed.

  • What can you not do after dental surgery?

After your treatment, you should avoid exercising for 2 to 3 days as this can prevent your mouth from creating blood clots properly and healing on schedule. You should also stay away from hard or crunchy foods for 6 to 8 weeks following your procedure while your mouth heals. Until your surgeon clears you, don’t floss or brush your teeth in the area treated. Once you get the okay, however, you should still be cautious and brush and floss carefully and gently.

  • Can I work the next day after tooth extraction?

It is perfectly alright for you to return to work the day after your tooth removal. However, some patients do take a day off to rest and recover, especially if you have a physically intensive job. While healing, it is important that you stay away from exercise or physically taxing work for a few days to keep your recovery on track.
