When you have severe tooth pain, don’t wait to get the treatment you need! Dental pain is often a sign of a deep cavity that has reached the soft, sensitive dental pulp at the center of your tooth. Pulp contains the blood vessels and nerves keeping your tooth alive and well. Once bacteria, plaque, and infection begin to attack these important structures of your tooth, a quick and responsive root canal treatment is necessary to preserve the natural beauty of your smile.
What is a root canal? Root canals are your endodontist’s last defense against tooth decay before the tooth is beyond saving. Our Gold Coast Dental Moreno Valley team will remove any bacteria, plaque, and decayed dental tissue attacking and infecting your dental pulp. Depending on the severity of your infection, we may need to clear multiple canals in your tooth to bring your tooth back to total health.
This may sound intense, but our caring dentists are gentle and attentive to your every dental need. We make sure you never feel any discomfort in our dental chair throughout your procedure. Our strong local anesthetics fully numb your tooth and keep your root canal completely painless and stress-free. Say goodbye to your tooth pain once and for all! Call our dental office at (951) 488-8688 to book an appointment with our endodontists today!
The Root Canal Process
At Gold Coast Dental Moreno Valley, our root canal procedure
is relatively simple and always painless
Before we can begin your root canal, we’ll need to perform a number of X-rays, digital scans, and physical examinations of your smile to determine the severity and scope of your cavity. This ensures that we never miss a detail when coming up with your specific treatment needs. Once your endodontist has come up with the perfect treatment plan, we’ll administer our fast-acting anesthetic that will keep you comfortable as we work. Next, we’ll remove any infection or damaged tissue in your tooth. For more severe cavities, it may be necessary to fully clear out one or more of your tooth’s canals.
We will then fill the hole left behind with a rubbery material called gutta-percha. Your tooth will need reinforcing to protect your smile from further cavities or decay. Simpler root canal treatments that only need one tooth canal treated may require only a single visit to our Moreno Valley office. These cases typically only need a standard dental filling, which can be completed as soon as the tooth has been cleared and filled. For patients with more complex endodontic needs, however, you will need a dental crown instead. During your first visit, a temporary crown will be fitted and placed to seal your vulnerable tooth while a more permanent crown is made by our labs.
Once finished, you’ll come in for your second and final visit to replace your temporary with the final permanent crown. This permanent crown will be specially designed to fit the rest of your smile, made of tooth-colored porcelain or composite resin to let it flawlessly match the neighboring teeth. Its high quality guarantees that your crown can last you between 5 and 15 years. With good care and oral hygiene, a porcelain crown can last over 25 years before needing a replacement. Signs Of A Root Canal Infection
Early detection of your painful cavity ensures we’re always able to protect
your natural smile from a dentist’s worst-case scenario
At Gold Coast Dental Moreno Valley, we always do our best to preserve your smile and bring it back to full health when you have a dental problem. When it comes to root canals, identifying potential tooth and dental canal infection early can mean the difference between whether or not your infected tooth can be saved. Extractions are always our endodontists’ last resort because we want to preserve as much of your smile as we can. Signs that you may need a root canal include: tooth nerve pain,
especially when chewing, tooth discoloration or darkening, red and swollen gums, lingering sensitivity to hot and cold or sweets, persistent bad breath or taste in your mouth, pus around and between your teeth and gums, white pimple (tooth abscess) forming on the gum by the tooth. If you experience any of these symptoms, please schedule a consultation with our emergency endodontists as soon as possible. We want to make sure that you always get the dental treatment you need quickly. You can reach our team by calling our office at (951) 488-8688 today.

Do I need a root canal if there is no pain?
Most cavities are painful once they reach the sensitive dental pulp at the center of your tooth, but you may notice that the pain suddenly disappears. Does this mean that the problem went away on its own? Of course not. Once the root canal infection becomes severe enough that the sensitive nerves in your tooth no longer feel pain, it’s crucial to the survival of your tooth that you get a root canal treatment done as soon as possible. At this point, the tooth is in danger of dying, and only quick action can bring it back from the brink. Seeing our Moreno Valley office too slowly can mean only an extraction is possible to save the rest of your smile from tooth decay.
-
Do root canals hurt?
Root canal procedures might have a fearsome reputation, but they’re actually really simple and relatively painless. Our Moreno Valley dental office uses safe, high-strength local anesthesia that keeps you from feeling anything more than a little pressure while we work to treat your cavity.
-
How long does a root canal take?
Minor cases can be completed in a single 30 to 90 minute appointment, needing only a simple filling to properly reinforce the tooth. More complex procedures which need more than a single tooth canal treated, however, can take two 90 minute visits to finish. This is often because a crown is needed, with a temporary crown placed at the end of the first visit and your permanent one during the second.
-
How do you keep your teeth healthy naturally?
Great oral hygiene habits are the best and most effective way to keep your natural smile strong and healthy. This includes brushing your teeth twice a day, flossing them once daily, and attending your regular dental cleaning appointments every 6 months. If you have a history of dental health issues, your dentist may recommend that you come into our office every 3 or 4 months to make sure that everything is in tip-top shape. You should also watch your diet, limiting the amount of sugars and starches you eat, to prevent your teeth from building up tooth decaying plaque and bacteria too quickly.
-
What procedures does an endodontist perform?
Endodontists specialize in dental work meant for saving your teeth. For most patients, this typically means performing a root canal procedure to stop severe cavities and tooth decay. They can also perform surgeries and other specialized treatments to bring your smile back to full health after trauma, including teeth that have badly cracked, broken, or even been knocked out of their socket.
-
How much does a root canal and crown cost?
Your crown and root canal cost depends on several factors, including the location of the tooth, the number of canals to be cleared of decay and infection, and the material of your permanent crown. While many root canals are covered by dental insurance, our office also offers a variety of financing options to ensure you always receive affordable dental care.
